Artist Spotlight: Lynne Miller Jones
The natural world is Lynne’s source of greatest inspiration. Beginning in early childhood, her family camped and hiked around the US, visiting all 50 states. She comes from several generations of scientists, serious gardeners and avid birders, activities she has expanded on in her own life and which contribute to her love and interest in the environment and growing things. Typically, she works from her own photographs which she crops and edits prior to painting. Occasionally, she’ll work from flowers and vegetables from her garden.
Lynne has drawn and painted all her life. She spent most of her early years in Cleveland, OH and began her formal art study as a teenager at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She went on to major in art at the University of California, Berkeley where she received a BA. Interested in combining her 2D art with her sewing and knitting hobbies, she continued her applied art education at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, receiving an A.A.S. in Textile and Surface Design in 1988. After several years creating textile designs for the fashion industry, Lynne indulged her interest in science and women’s health and attended NYU's School of Nursing, earning a B.S. in Nursing in 1992. She moved to Chicago and spent the next decade working as a delivery room nurse. During the following years when her children were small, she resumed taking classes in painting, drawing and printmaking whenever she could. Once her 3 children were all in school, she returned to painting full time.
Lynne and Chip have known each other for many years having attended elementary through high school together. Having drifted apart over the years, social media reconnected these two creative souls for this unique episode of the Artist Spotlight.
